Inspiration - The Power of Inspiration
Why teach kids about inspiration? Because inspiration has a power like no other.
Teaching your child about inspiration fuels their growth - emotionally, it brings joy and confidence. Intellectually, they are encouraged to think critically and be curious. Socially, they realise the power of unity by working within a team or taking action to improve the lives of others, and spiritually, they discover a world of wonder and a sense of purpose.
Nothing gets anyone out of bed better than the power of inspiration from within.
Inspiration goes beyond an idea that someone has; it motivates action and creates a feeling of excitement driven by imagination and thoughts that pop into one's head.
Being inspired could come from noticing what's happening in the environment and imagining possibilities of how things could be.
Safety
Kids have great imaginations and do some amazing things when matched with a kind, caring heart, such as Krystyna Paszko, a teenager who helped victims of domestic violence (DV). Before the pandemic, Krystyna had heard about a French initiative of how domestic violence victims could go to a pharmacist and ask for a special mask, which alerted them that they were victims of domestic violence.
Krystyna heard about the rise of DV during the pandemic and wanted to help, so she created a fake online shop where victims could secretly ask for help. When they opened the chat, it connected them with a psychologist rather than a salesperson, and if they needed authorities to come to their home, they placed an order, which included their address.
Neighbours
Observing an elderly customer at her father's grocery store, nine-year-old Fatima noticed how the woman struggled with her groceries and realised that the older woman was also at risk because of the pandemic.
With her father's support and help, they created a Facebook group to coordinate who required help and who could help.
It became known as the 'Good Neighbour Project' and still operates today.
Global
Both the examples above had a positive impact beyond their neighbourhood. The pandemic did have other positive outcomes, such as creating new family traditions, more family time together, improved sibling bonds, and enhanced technological skills for many.
Numerous people discovered the benefits of working from home, in addition to companies profiting. Families relocated to an environment that was more family-friendly and less stressful.
Imagine if Krystyna had not taken action and created the online shop. I wonder how many victims benefitted from her putting her thoughts into action and allowing them to reach out for help when needed. Lives were probably saved without her realising it.
What if Fatima's dad didn't support her and help her bring to life the idea that she had to help older people stay safe and link them to people so they did not have to struggle with their groceries?
How good must Krystyna and Fatima feel when their ideas become realities and help others worldwide?
Sometimes, ideas only come to fruition after some time, but it starts with an interest, an idea and the required action to make it come to life. It could be as simple as phoning or dropping in on someone or something that requires more planning.
What inspires you and what motivates your child? Whatever it is, it has the power to inspire.
