Service - Service Begins at Home

Service begins at home

How do parents teach values to their children? By serving them. Service begins at home and is about providing guidance and support.

Most parents’ goal is to raise morally responsible adults. As a parent, your service to your children is invaluable.

Your guidance, encouragement, support, and love are the foundation of their journey to adulthood.

By serving your children, you are instilling the importance of service and demonstrating its value. This journey begins at home.

Nobody grows up, reaches a particular stage or age, and is emotionally ready to take on the world. It’s a gradual growth process.

Influence Influence does not happen overnight. If you’ve ever wondered how parents, teachers, or mentors influence a child’s values, you know it’s a journey that requires commitment and perseverance.

It’s about being a consistent and positive presence in their lives.Everybody can positively influence the younger generation, but only some do.

Some people don’t know how because they haven’t had positive influences or a role model to guide them.

Others get lost in the busyness of life and assume that their children will grow up with the values they have.

We all know what assumptions do, don’t we?Like everything else children learn, the more time you take to share, discuss, and role-model what you are trying to instil in your child, the better the outcome.

Habits It’s like wanting to be healthy. If you take a daily walk, you’ll likely be more nutritious than someone who walks once a week or less often.

Time is an investment in your child’s growth, and how you spend that time is even more valuable.

Sometimes, parents don’t realize this because they are constantly striving to keep their child fed and clothed, ensure there is a roof over their head.

In addition to providing them with a warm bed, paying school fees, and supplying a thousand other things that parents want to give their child,There are so many ways a parent can serve their child, and there doesn’t seem to be enough time to help them grow into the adult you hope they become—18 years just doesn’t seem enough.

Personalities Then, all the personality preferences also come into play—like the Five Love Languages. There’s an online quiz if you’d like to find out what you are.

If your child prefers ‘Quality Time’ or ‘Words of Affirmation’ and you are an ‘Acts of Service’ person, you may feel like you’re doing your best to provide for your child when all they want is your time, love, and encouragement.

So before you spend years serving your child in the way you think you need to, be mindful of how they would like you to serve them.

If you’d like to know more, check out this interview with Gary Chapman, the author of The 5 Love Languages.

Gary Chapman says you can tell what love language a child is by observing.

When I attended a meeting, I remember a child ran into the room to show their mum a picture they had drawn.

I immediately realized that the child loved to give gifts.

Understanding where a child is coming from is so important when raising a child because to raise a child with integrity, you need to do what is best for them, and the more you understand your child, the easier that is.

Make sure your child never needs to question if you love them.

Ensure they feel loved.

That’s the best way you can serve your child.
